The deadline for prospective speakers to apply has expired!
Auditors still have the chance to apply but, due to the high number of requests received so far, we can’t currently process further applications coming from auditors who need to apply for a visa. Should we receive more applications of that kind, applicants will be put on a “waiting list” we’ll rely on if any of those who applied in the past weeks should withdraw.

The “dialogic condition”

Theoretical, cultural-historical hypothesis

What does «dialogic condition» mean?

The «condition» a person or any kind of being is in, is made of different elements. It’s a cultural-historical «state» with legal implications.

The dialogic condition may be considered as a status which defines the subjects that are in it and enables them to exercise their «right to dialogue».

Dialogue is possible with the presence of this condition: if the right to dialogue must be recognized as a fundamental right, without which the efficacy of free speech is reduced to the adfirmation of individual stances, then the «dialogic condition» must be pursued as a right as well.

Dialogue has a focus on the elaboration of spaces and times in which the subjects can relate with one another, and on the argued overcoming of problems in a sphere we can recognize as a «public» one.

Dialogue means work according to rules, a values-producing relationship; it’s not just a mediation or a communion, but the formation of social, economic and political spaces through subjective rights and cultural expressions.

Participation and suggested topics

Participants are invited to present their own proposals within the fields of discussion suggested below, or to approach the given theme from a different perspective, bringing their own local experiences, views and inputs from different scientific fields in a transdisciplinary perspective (economics, social sciences, history, psychology, arts, cultural studies, political science… ).

The theoretical,cultural-historical hypothesys that inspires the forum and founds the claim to establish the “right to dialogue” as a “fundamental right” will be the subject of panels and round tables as well. Proposals submitted by those who intend to apply for participation may be related to said hypothesys too.

Suggested topics

1) Dialogue and relational networks: the dialogic condition

Generating and transforming values, relationships, spaces to exercise the “capabilities”, ways of storytelling, focus on the future.

2) Dialogue and news flow/publication: the press between “single issues” and plurality
The amount of informations of any kind spread by the press is often acknowledged through the fragmented structure of single issues (especially through the mediation of social media).
The role of the press in the «public» elaboration of the information.

3) Science as “dialogic condition”: dialogue and complexity
An open understanding of “science” reveals it as a constitutive factor of every space of life. Therefore, the access to complexity as its method and substance is an essential element of the dialogic condition.

The simple in the complex, the complex in the simple.

4) Dialogic condition and dialogue between «cultures»: knowledge, beliefs, ways of expressions, forms of cultural languages
The comparison between cultures rooted in territories and in the stories of «popular» and «erudite» proficiencies (i.e.: scientific and humanistic culture, bodily knowledge, rituals, religions…).

5) Dialogue and generations: the dialogic condition as intergenerational fact
Generations between culture and history, continuity and rift, memory and critical rethinking.

6) Dialogue and institutions. Dialogic places and spaces
Institutions: occupation or liberation of the dialogue spaces? Forums and youth role (different age ranges). Dialogue modes in institutional spaces: formal/informal. Education and Schools

7) Dialogue and diplomacy
International law and the future of dialogue.

8) Dialogue between border cultures
Border literatures and cultures, intercultural exchanges in different parts of the world, particularly in those realities that are in contact with each other and that have experienced common and/or conflicted stories.

I. Participation process

The present call is addressed to young adults aged 18 to 35, without distinction as to nationality. The Forum works will be conducted both in Italian and in English; simultaneous translation from/to both languages will be provided.

Those who are interested in taking part to the Forum must apply by filling and submitting the online form available on the organization’s website ( For submissions’ deadlines, please check the following paragraphs.

Interested persons may apply either as speakers or as auditors.

  • Speakers

While filling the application form, those who are interested in applying as speakers must provide a title and an abstract for the paper that, if selected, they’ll have to eventually develop, in order to present it on the Forum. Thus they must fill all the form’s fields, including n. 15 (paper’s title) and n. 16 (paper’s abstract).

Application forms must be submitted by Sunday, July 9, 2017, 11.59 pm (CET). The organizers don’t guarantee that later applications will be taken into consideration. The organization will disclose the selection’s results by July 15, 2017.

The selection of speakers will be based upon the assessment of the abstracts (quality level, originality, adherence to the Forum’s theme), the applicants’ profiles, the available budget. Therefore the organization will accept a number of participants based on the actual financial availability, thus reserving the right of rejecting exceeding requests.

The Forum’s organization will provide a 4 nights accommodation (lodging only) for the speakers: check-in will be on September 28th, check-out on October 2nd.

Selected speakers are compelled to purchase travel tickets on their own.

However, the organization will contribute to the travel expenditure the speakers will have to bear, upon presentation of the travel documents (flight, train, bus tickets, boarding passes, etc.) by the speakers themselves. The amount of the reimbursement won’t exceed 80% of the expenditure, neither it will exceed, in any case, 400 € per person.

Participants will be able to keep in touch with the organizers while planning the travel, in order to find out the most suitable solutions, based on the costs and on the abovementioned check-in / check-out dates (which, in turn, are based on the forum’s).

Reimbursement methods will be as follows:
– speakers coming from a Sepa area country (or having a bank account based there) will be asked to provide the iban code of a bank account the organizers will make a transfer to, once the forum’s over and upon presentation of the travel documents;
– for participants not coming from a Sepa area country (nor having a bank account based there), the organizers will deal with each case singularly, according to the speakers’ provenance and in order to find the most practical way to perform the reimbursement (cash, bank transfer, other…).

Interested persons are also advised to start working on their own in order to get a sponsorship in their countries to cover the travel expenditure, and to submit the sponsorship requests as soon as possible, also to allow the Forum organizers to support them as best as they can.

Speakers are asked to mind that, in order to get the reimbursement for the travel expenditure, they must present the organizers the travel documents (tickets, boarding passes, etc.) and they must attend all forum’ sessions.

  • Auditors

Auditors (individuals or delegations) are allowed to take part to debates and round-table discussions, but without presenting any paper. So, while filling the application form those who are interested in such role must skip fields n. 15 (paper’s title) and 16 (paper’s abstract).
Application forms must be submitted by Sunday, July 30, 2017, 11.59 pm (CET). Interested persons who’d need to apply for a visa are advised to contact the organizers as soon as possible.

The organization will not incur any costs in connection to visas release.
