Il cielo parve tutto riversarsi
sopra la terra intenerita; incerti
dell’inconsueto prodigio
tentennavano i rami additando
a Occidente. Dal mare,
immenso campo sterile, sorgevano
stupefatti di sé, quasi degli ignei
virgulti, o parve ancora
ripetersi la meraviglia
incendiaria della Fenice in fiamma
inebriata di nardo.
Fu in me, da quando bevvi
quel buon rosso liquore,
il Caos degli elementi.
The sky seemed all to flow himself
above the moved earth; uncertain
of the unusual prodigy
the branches shook showing
to West. From the sea,
immense infertile field, rose
amazed of itself, almost of the igneous ones
twigs, or it still seemed
to be repeated herself the wonder
incendiary of the Phoenix in flame
inebriated of myrrh.
It was me, from when I drank
that good red liqueur,
the Chaos of the elements.
